Non-Conventional Energy Sources

Main Features: Its objective is planning, promoting and organizing integrated development of thermal power. It is a Schedule A ‘Navaratna’ company.

  • During the year, a consortium comprising NTPC, Canoro Resources Ltd. And Geo Petrol International has been allotted an oil exploration block in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • A Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for the block has been signed between the Govt. of India and the consortium.
  • Ratnagiri Gas and Power Private Ltd (2005) was formed between NTPC, GAIL,MSEB to take over the assets of east while Dhabhol power Company Ltd., completer the project and operationalise it.
  • It is implementing its first hydro project- Koldam Hydro Electrical Power Project (HEEP) in H.P, as part of its diversification drive.
  • It has participated in several programmes such as Accelerated Rural Electrification Programmmes (AREP); APDRP etc.

PSU or other Organization : National Hydro- Electrical Power Corporation (NHEPC) (1975)

Main Features:

  • It has been granted ISO 14001 certificates for its quality management system & environment management system. It is a Schedule A enterprise of the Govt. of India.
  • The NHPC has completed 9 hydro electric projects with an installed capacity of 2,755 MW on its own and one project.
  • The NHPC has signed a MoU with Uttaranchal Govt. for the implementation of a 240 MW Chungar Chal, 630 MW Garba Tawaghat and 55 MW Kamoli Lumti Tulli Projects in Uttarakhand and signed agreements with the govt. of Sikkim for the execution of the 495 MW Teesta Stage- IV and 210 MW Lachen Hydro electrical projects in Sikkim on BOOM basis.
  • It has completed Devighat Hyd. Power project in Nepal, Kurichi Hydro Power Project in Bhutan, Kalpong Hydro Power Project in A & N Island.
  • It is consultant in the area of Hydro Power with International funding Agencies like W.B and A.D.B (Asian Development Bank) etc..

PSU or other Organization:Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) (1989)

Main Features:For the establishment and operation of regional and national power grids to facilitate transfer of power with in & across the regions.

  • It is a mini ratnaCategory I PSU. About 45 % of the power generated in the country is being transferred over POWR GRID.
  • PGCIL has diversified into telecom business to utilize spare telecommunication capacity available with its unified load dispatch center.
  • PGCIL has established Unified Load Dispatch and Communication (ULDC) Schemes in Northern, Southern, N.E., Eastern, Western regional power grids. (National Load Dispatch Center is located at Delhi)

PSU or other Organization:Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) (1969)

Main Features:The current mission of REC is to facilitate availability of electricity for accelerated growth & for enrichment of quality of life of rural and semi- urban population and to act as a competitive, client- friendly and development oriented organization for financing and promoting projects covering power generation, power conservation, power transmission and power distribution network in the country.

  • To implement GOI Scheme for electrification of all villages and all households by 2009.

PSU or other Organization:Power Finance Corporation Limited- New Delhi (1986)

Main Features:

  • Main objective of this is financing of power generation projects, transmission and distribution works, renovation and modernization of power and energy conservation schemes.
  • It has been declared as Mini Ratna (Category 1) PSU.
  • It is regd. As a Non- Banking Financial Ultra Mega Power Projects of 4000 MW, received MoU Award of Excellence for FY- 2003-04.
  • It is Registered as Non- Banking Financial Institution by RBI in 1997

PSU or other Organization: North Eastern Electrical Power Corp. Ltd. – Shillong (1976).

Main Features:

  • This country meets more than 68% of the energy requirement of NE region.
  • It is an ISO 9001: 2000 (Quality), ISO- 14001:1996 (Environment) & OHSAS- 18001: 1999 (Safety) Company.

PSU or other Organization:Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (Naptha Jhakri Power Corp. Ltd.) (1988).

Main Features:

  • It plans, investigate, organize, operate Hydro Power projects in Sutluj basin in HP.
  • The equity sharing ration of GOI and Govt. of HP is 3:1 in SJVN.

In 2003, it successfully complete the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Project in H.P and its dedication to the nation by P.M is an important landmark for it.

  • If is an ISO 9001: 2000 (Quality), ISO 14001: 1996 (Environment) and OHSAS 18001: 1999 (Safety) company with its corporate office at Shillong.

PSU or other Organization:Tehri Hydro Development Corp. Ltd. (THDC) (1988)

Main Features:

  • To plan, promote and organize an integrated hydro resources of Bhagirathis rivers and its tributaries at Tehri like Tehri Hydro Power Complex and other Hydro Projects.

PSU or other Organization:Damodar Valley corporation (DVC) (1948)

Main Features:

  • DVC’s main projects include four dams at Maithon, Panchet, Tilaiya and Konar, Thermal Power Stationat Bokaro ‘A’, Bokaro ‘B’, Chandrapura, Durgapura, Mejia and also one gas turbine station at Maithon.
  • The first multipurpose river valley project with the objectives of flood control, irrigation and hydel power generation in the Damodar Valley region (Jharkhand and West Bengal).

PSU or other Organization :Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB)

  • The board is responsible for the administration, maintenance and operation at Bhakra Nangal Projects, Beas Project unit I & unit II including power houses.

Main Features:

  • It is a single entity to enter into power purchase agreement.
  • It is also a nodal agency (PTC) to deal with matters relating to exchange of power between India and neighbouring countries.

Main Features:

  • it is an ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 14001 organisation .
  • NPTI is the head institute for Institute (NPTI)- Faridabad training and Human resource development in power sector
